Tart Event Co. is a creative event planning and design team based in Virginia & Washington, DC. We are collectors of details, practitioners of the art of entertaining, makers of checklists and lovers of color. With a clipboard in one hand & confetti in the other, we seek creativity and innovation as we help tell your story through celebration.
As the design and planning team for the Wedding Collective Giveaway, we’ve been working hand in hand with Alex and Laura from day one – Getting to know them, their story and their vision for their wedding day. Spoiler alert: THEY ARE ADORABLE, and we’re often not sure if a day full of meetings with them and these vendor friends counts as work since we have so much fun together. We love this sweet couple SO MUCH, and working with this dream team of vendors has made our job easy.
We are a planning duo, and when it comes to preparing for any of our weddings and events, we both definitely have our areas of expertise. Kelsey tends to cover the areas of creative needs (think layouts, designs and color palettes) while Amelia heads up our communications and logistical elements. That being said, we also function most effectively as a team, using our combined individual skills to make dreams reality.
The design process begins with us getting to know the couple, their style & the story they want their wedding day to tell. Sometimes we start from scratch with our clients, and some brides come to us with a strong vision, like Laura did. We immediately jumped in and began refining their vision, developing a design plan based around Laura and Alex’s tastes and interests, which is so incredibly important to us when it comes to personalizing our clients’ big day. The goal of this design process is to capture the feel, color palette and general aesthetic of the event. The design then acts as a guide that we can come back to as the couple makes design decisions along the way and is easily communicated to the other vendors to ensure we are all on the same page.
With the design in place, we are able to move on to bringing the vision to life by creating the event design, which breaks down ideas from the design process into practical options and attainable resources. We, alongside the other vendors, help the bride and groom make tangible decisions on everything from rental items to floral direction to stationery envelope colors. This is our favorite (and also the most exhausting) part of our job as we see all the parts and pieces come together and witness our couple’s design come to life.
As details fall (or are softly guided) into place, our spreadsheets really kick into gear. We keep track of the contracts being signed, the invoices that are sent, and the delivery times that are mentioned in passing to create timelines that keep the wedding weekend moving and checklists that keep everyone on track. We take into consideration which direction the buffet line will move, where the guitarist can leave his equipment, and who takes the microphone after the Maid of Honor’s speech. It’s like a wedding puzzle… and we really LOVE puzzles.
At the beginning of every wedding ceremony rehearsal, we gather everyone around, introduce ourselves and tell the group that from henceforth, every question they have about the weekend and its festivities should be directed to us. Our job on the wedding weekend is to ensure that the bride & groom are having a blast and making stress-free, magical memories with the ones they love the most. All the many meetings & emails asking 4,519 questions come together when we have all the answers on our clipboards and our couple is on the dance floor, enjoying wedded bliss.
Guys, our job is literally a party, & we could not be more excited to be a party of this incredible team of talented creatives. Alex & Laura are the most deserving couple & it’s truly been a privilege to help make their dream wedding a reality.
