Photography for the newly engaged couple
Hi, I’m Katelyn! My husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia.
I love my job because it’s some things are always the same and then other aspects of it are completely different every week! Every weekend I get to celebrate and capture one of the most important days of our “KJ Couple’s” lives! However, we’re always shooting in a new location with a fresh perspective and that is what makes our job so much fun! We’re impacting lives and creating beautiful imagery at the same time! What could be better?!
There is something so empowering about being able to use your talent for GOOD. Gifting a wedding to a deserving couple has been something that I have wanted to do for years and I can’t wait for this big day!! Alex and Laura have been through so much and we can’t WAIT to change their lives with this giveaway!!!
When it comes to wedding photography, I think there are a few things to consider in preparation for your engagement session!! For most couples, this is their FIRST TIME having professional portraits done together. It’s hard to know what to expect but these three tips will help!
1. Prepare your fiance! Make sure your fiance knows what they are getting themselves into! This isn’t just a “take two shots & we’re done” type of shoot…. it’s an experience! The purpose of your engagement session is to prepare you for the wedding day and to have a chance to get to know your photographer!
2. Clean your ring! More than likely, your photographer will be taking some pictures of that gorgeous diamond so you want to make sure it’s CLEAN!
3. Try to coordinate your outfits and not match one another! The goal isn’t to look like twins, it’s to look like a well coordinated couple! For example, if one of you is wearing a navy shirt, then the other person shouldn’t be wearing a navy shirt but they could wear navy pants because then the two navy’s aren’t competing!
No matter what, you want to make sure you remind yourself that you DO NOT need to be pros at this! Your photographer should explain EVERYTHING to you clearly and precisely so that you know exactly what you’re doing!
I LOVED shooting Alex and Laura’s engagement session at Big Spring Farm! It was just gorgeous!!! I sent Laura and Alex a prep email and one of my BRIDAL GUIDES to help prepare them for their engagement and it was perfect! I also started their session reminding them that they do not need to be perfect at this, they just have to trust me. Their shoot was incredible and you can view their images HERE!!
